Home Trust of Ouray is rising to meet the challenge of affordable housing in Ouray County. Their mission is to grow an inclusive, economically diverse community by providing permanently affordable housing and housing-related resources to modest income households in Ouray County. The Ouray County Community Fund committee recently awarded them a grant to support the building of the River Walk Rental Project from predevelopment to construction in 2025.
River Walk affordable rental workforce housing project will provide 13 income-qualified affordable rental units to meet the increasing housing demand of our county. According to the 2023 Region 10 “Mind the Gap: Evaluating Workforce Housing” study, between 2019 and 2021 family housing prices in Ouray County increased 120%, yet wages only increased 30%. Many of our schools, governmental services and businesses are having trouble hiring employees due to a lack of affordable housing in our community. The River Walk project will not only be able to help families live where they work, but it will help to build a stronger community in Ouray County.
