Non-Traditional Scholarships

Fresh Start Vocational Scholarship

Awarded to residents of Mesa County who wish to attend a community college, technical school, or a training course to prepare for a career that does not require a four-year college degree. Training programs may include for-profit training centers. Scholarships of up to $5,000 may be awarded and can cover the cost of training, tools, books, and other expenses, including room and board.

Fruita Rotary/Career Pathways Scholarship

Awarded to graduating seniors and former attendees of Fruita Monument High School who are not interested in attending a four-year institution. These students may have participated in mentorship programs, apprenticeships, job shadowing, or CTE courses. They will be attending a vocational, technical, community, college or university for an associates, certificate or apprenticeship program.

Maltese Cross Scholarship

Awarded to active members of a recognized fire department in one of the following counties: Mesa, Delta, Montrose, Ouray, Garfield, Rio Blanco, or Moffat. Available to applicants who are accepted into a fire technology program and working toward a certification, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, public administration, or other related course (not including criminal justice). Scholarships of up to $2,000 per year will be awarded based on financial need and will be available for up to five years, provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and is enrolled in a fire technology program, taking at least 3 credits per semester.
