September is Hunger Action Month and several leaders of the Mesa County Hunger Alliance have had the media spotlight on them. The Mesa County Hunger Alliance is a group of over 20 hunger relief organizations that our Community Foundation began convening 10 years ago to better understand and address hunger needs.
Community Food Bank News
Alisha Wenger leads the Community Food Bank of Grand Junction and serves as Co-Chair for the Hunger Alliance Steering Committee. Along with operating a free mobile market this summer, bringing fresh produce to underserved communities, Community Food Bank will be opening the 7th Street Community Café in early 2025, directing the Café’s profits to the Community Food Bank’s operations.

Food Bank of the Rockies
Sue Ellen Rodwick leads the Food Bank of the Rockies Western Slope, serving 13 counties west of the Continental Divide. She also serves on the Steering Committee for the Hunger Alliance. She shared more about her personal journey with the Sentinel and uses her energy for good, directing nourishing foods to smaller food pantries, church groups and organizations through the Food Bank of the Rockies.
