FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) – Two area organizations are teaming up for a matching grant campaign to help support the Colorado National Monument.
The Colorado National Monument Association (CNMA) and Western Colorado Community Foundation (WCCF) launched the campaign which started Sept. 1 and ends Oct. 15.
The funds will go toward trail maintenance, historic preservation, education programs, the internship fund, resource stewardship, the Resiliency Ranger program and helping tribal groups. CNMA and WCFF will match every dollar donation up to $60,000.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to give the monument unprecedented support,” CNMA Executive Director Johanna van Waveren said in a press release. “The needs of Colorado National Monument continue to grow, and CNMA, along with our community, is striving to meet these needs so we can continue to preserve our backyard National Park and bring educational and resiliency programming to the public. We couldn’t do this without partners like the Western Colorado Community Foundation and other members of our community.”
This campaign goes along with CNMA’s 60th anniversary which marks a milestone of “six decades of dedicated stewardship and community involvement,” according to the CNMA.
This isn’t the only event the Colorado National Monument Association is hosting. It is also holding A Monument Celebration at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Monument Vista Place, 1785 Broadway in Grand Junction.
The event will feature a silent auction, live music by the Hot House West Jazz Band and dinner catered by Hillbilly Grill.
