Mesa County Public Health reported that, in 2023, just over 10% of Mesa County residents were enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), one of many federal initiatives facing changes through this year’s federal budget bill. Many of those potential changes, from reduced federal funding to expanded work requirements, have caused SNAP beneficiaries and hunger relief organizations to raise alarms as the bill works its way through the Senate.
