The City of Grand Junction Food Waste Pilot begins with the award of a USDA Grant – working with the Hunger Alliance to ensure food that is unable to be donated can be composted. In the seven months of participation, Food Bank of the Rockies successfully diverted 18,600 lbs. of food waste from the landfill with the pilot.
UpRoot Colorado expands its operations into Mesa County, Larimer County, and the Arkansas River Valley with the hiring of 3 new Gleaning & Food-Systems Coordinators for each area. Since 2017, UpRoot has been helping to increase the nutrition security of Coloradans by harvesting and redistributing surplus nutrient-dense foods while supporting the resilience of farmers.
La Plaza rebranded from former name, Child and Migrant Services, expanding mission to support communities beyond agricultural workers. Introduced a new membership model for clients, resulting in a 144% increase in membership and higher levels of engagement and empowerment among members. All staff are culturally competent and have been strengthening partnerships with other organizations and government entities in the Grand Valley.
Mutual Aid Partners significantly expands programming and moves operations from the Unitarian Church parking lot into the HomewardBound/United Way Resource Center as an anchor partner.
