The Western Colorado Community Foundation manages over $50 million in total assets and awarded $2.1 million in grants and scholarships in 2015. This growing charitable foundation is headquartered in Grand Junction, CO and serves seven counties in Western Colorado. We are currently a staff of six. We seek a mature, dynamic professional to join our staff team to cultivate major and planned gifts and organize special asset development projects.

Job Overview: This is a new position for our organization. We are growing steadily and currently have limited staff resources to dedicate to one-on-one major donor cultivation work. The specialized long-term asset development work we do requires a steady, consistent, highly personalized approach to donor education and cultivation. This position will increase our organization’s capacity to expand and deepen donor relations, identify and develop major gifts and estate gifts, and engage in extensive individual donor cultivation work in order to build long-term assets for the Community Foundation.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Donor Cultivation
Organize, schedule and conduct individual donor calls, including current donors, legacy society members, and prospective donors. Develop and maintain lists of new donor prospects. Attend and participate regularly in service club meetings and community events. Develop education and outreach presentations and present to nonprofit boards, bar associations, service clubs, investment clubs, etc.
Special Asset Development Projects
Develop specialized marketing materials to market the Colorado endowment gift tax credit and implement comprehensive donor education strategy if HB 16-1089 passes.
Skills and Qualifications
Strong commitment to our organization’s mission and purpose.
15+ years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, law/estate planning, banking/finance, financial planning, investments or related field.
Demonstrated effectiveness in major donor solicitation and development work, as paid employee or as volunteer on a nonprofit development committee.
Understanding of planned giving tools and techniques and charitable endowments.
Excellent people skills – interest in people and determining their charitable interests, listening skills, proposing philanthropic solutions.
Strong networks in Mesa County and Western Colorado a plus.
Understanding of people, communities and issues of Western Colorado.
Familiar with community foundations and the different type of funds offered.
Able and willing to travel in Western Colorado.

Skills that are NOT required
Experience with organizing special events, annual appeals or proposal writing.

Other
We are willing to train our new hire in some of the technical details of community foundations, planned giving and endowment fundraising.

Our preference is to hire a full-time professional who is committed to building our organization but there may be some flexibility in hours worked per week for the right individual to join our team.

Supervision and Reporting

This position will report to the President and Executive Director and will require close communication and coordination of planning and activites.
