Team Building for Nonprofits: Secrets of Success
June 13, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Effective teams are an important part of a successful nonprofit. This program will cover the fundamentals of team building, including:
Putting together a winning team. What mix of knowledge, skills and connections do we need?
Establishing connection. How to get to know your team and build trust?
Setting team goals. How do you define tasks, outcomes, and your processes for achieving them?
Agreeing on individuals’ roles. Who will do what?
Setting the stage for accountability. How will the team enforce its goals?
We’ll also explore common barriers to building a high functioning team and how to overcome them. Utilizing the framework of Patrick Lencioni’s seminal work, “Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of Teams,” we’ll participate in exercises on: building trust; encouraging productive conflict; and achieving buy-in.
Picking the right team members
Setting clear, smart goals
Rallying support both within and outside the team
Fostering camaraderie and cooperation
Addressing bad behavior before it gets out of hand
Promoting healthy dissent
Resolving conflict when it rears its head
Holding members accountable to one another, not just to the team leader
Keeping them focused and motivated to the end
