We would like to thank the Daily Sentinel for the excellent coverage of our Mesa County Leadership Forum on Hunger last week and Sunday’s editorial, Let’s End Hunger. People don’t realize it but hunger exists here in Mesa County; one in seven people are hungry (compared to one in ten in our state). Our Community Foundation has been working to address child hunger over the past five years by designing and funding new programs like the Lunch Lizard summer mobile meals program. We are now taking the lead in organizing a variety of different efforts to alleviate hunger for all our citizens by increasing SNAP enrollment and supporting food relief organizations like the Community Food Bank, Kids Aid Backpack Program and Gray Gourmet to expand. We will be organizing several tasks forces to work on issues like food recovery – helping restaurants and institutions like hospitals save unused food from being thrown away and redirected to feed the hungry. Learn more at wc-cf.org/hunger and join us in working to end hunger in Mesa County!
